One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 123

November 9, 2023

Well it is a beautiful, but cold morning here in our little valley, the sun is shining and the sky is blue. The leaves are still falling off the trees but the leaves that are still on the trees are pretty colors.

The cats have had their breakfast and they also had a bowl of warm milk, they are now out in the yard and playing in the leaves, I think they are playing hide and seek, they are just like little kids.

These cold nights when the cats go to bed, I warm their blankets for them, that was Bob’s idea and they love it, and on these cold mornings they do not want to get out of their warm beds.

I still have not built a fire in the old wood heating stove yet, these days have been warm and when the house gets warm from that wood heat it stays warm. But wintertime will be here soon.

We have done some more Christmas decorating, but I have not got any of my trees up yet, but I should get started on them soon, we always try to have most of the Christmas decorating done by Thanksgiving day.

From Thanksgiving day until Christmas Day is when we have lots of company over, I have my Christmas music playing and I do lots of baking, it is a busy, busy time of year, but I love it.

We were out running errands and we saw farmers out in the fields gathering their corn, last week we saw our neighbor hauling in those big round bales of hay. Everybody is trying to get things done before the cold weather

We have not been seeing any squirrels lately, but there sure are a lot of walnuts and hickory nuts and acorns down by the creek, so it seems to be a lot of food for the animals this Fall.

I have not heard much about what kind of Winter we will have, but from most of the signs it looks like it is going to be a bad cold one. But things are not like they used to be, mostly over the last few years it seems like lots of things have really changed, but one thing is for sure, the good Lord never changes and I am trusting in Him.

Bob just finished the dishes and the kitchen is clean and after he finishes his coffee he is planning on sweeping the leaves off the porch, he sure has had to do a lot of that lately.

Bob has finished his physical therapy and is doing much better, but he still wants to go back, Trent, you and the girls sure did a good job but ya’ll got him spoiled. Thank all of you for all you do for us.

I have got a very busy day planned, there is a lot to do. I am making a big pot of soup and a pan of cornbread for lunch. I have got some more cleaning to do and Bobby is going to get some more Christmas decorations out of storage for me to put up.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless,

Evelyn “E.T.” Trevathan
