Hohenwald/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met

September 9, 2021

The Hohenwald/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met on August 11, 2021 to discuss ongoing and new issues of interest to the business community. Attending were Todd Montgomery, Austin Carrol, Mike Ricketts, Mayor Jonah Keltner, Tyler Hinson, Johnny Clayton, and Executive Director Debbie Landers.

Director Landers reported that the Oktober Heritage Festival planning is well underway for the annual event taking place on October 8th-9th. The purpose of the event is to celebrate Lewis County’s heritage in all forms. More information will soon follow, but there will be events/vendors/music/food taking place on Main Street and throughout downtown Hohenwald. Director Landers also reported that she submitted a grant proposal to the State Department of Tourism Development for an amount of $5,000 to be used in the ongoing Lewis County Blueway project providing public access points and maintenance on the Buffalo River in Lewis County. Mr. Carroll shared that the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Association was interested in that project as well. Director Landers also staffed an information booth at the Lifefest event that took place in Bon Aqua on July 29-31 and also at the Williamson County Business Reception with the intent of marketing Hohenwald/Lewis County as well as as a possible new home for businesses relocating to the area. These marketing and recruiting efforts are done in collaboration with Nashville’s Big Backyard with the overall goal of bringing more people to visit, work, and live in southern Middle Tennessee. Director Landers also reported that she attended the annual Natchez Trace Compact meeting, an organization created for communities along the Trace to be able to collaboratively work together and plan towards mutually beneficial goals utilizing the Trace as a resource. All reports indicate that travel on the Trace was up for 2020.

Mr. Clayton and Mr. Carroll again voiced a determination to urge the Tennessee Department of Transportation to move ahead with the proposed road improvement project extending a four-lane highway from the Lewis County Line to Hwy 43 in Mount Pleasant. It appears that best course forward is to continue to voice concerns to elected representatives and government officials.

The Chamber would like to again welcome Los Hermanos Mexican Grill to Hohenwald and to the Chamber of Commerce.
