Lane Wright as Ebeneezer Scrooge and Kay Ayers as the Ghost of Christmas Past in WPT's 2017 production of A Victorian Christmas Carol with Charles Dickens. The production will return to Mt. Pleasant Grille for special dinner theatre performances December 10-12, 2021.

Watershed Public Theatre (WPT) announces the 2021-22 season as its biggest season to date. The professional, nonprofit theatre company based in Columbia, will be offering four stage productions between September 2021 and June 2022, as well as providing new educational and outreach opportunities to the community.

The season begins with the musical Einstein is a Dummy, which follows a fictional day in the life of 12-year-old Albert Einstein as he tries to keep up with violin lessons and impress a girl, all while contemplating the fundamental relationship of space and time to the speed of light. Performances run October 1-3, 2021 at Columbia State's Ledbetter Auditorium. Weekday performances for school groups are available September 30-October 1, and streaming performances for classrooms are also available upon request.

For the holidays, WPT will bring back a local favorite - A Victorian Christmas Carol with Charles Dickens – based on the classic Dickens Christmas story and adapted for the stage by local playwright Beverly Mitchell. Special dinner theatre performances will be held at Mt. Pleasant Grille December 10-12, 2021.

Beginning February 25, 2022, WPT will present The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged, running through March 6, 2022. Three actors will attempt to perform all 37 of Shakespeare's plays in just 90 minutes, with hilarious results.

The season will close with an adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride & Prejudice, running June 17-26, 2022, as the third installment in WPT's Summer Classics series. This will mark the fourth production for WPT's Journeyman Troupe as part of the newly expanded theatre training program. The Journeyman Troupe began as a six-week program running in conjunction with Summer Classics productions, but for the 2021-22 season, WPT has extended it to run the full season to provide more in-depth theatre training opportunities. In addition to hands-on production experience, the Troupe receives specialized mentorships and monthly workshops covering a broad spectrum of theatre topics.

As part of the expanded arts education and outreach, WPT partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Tennessee to offer weekly afterschool theatre instruction to middle school students at two of the Club's Maury County sites. Both the afterschool program and Journeyman Troupe are provided at no cost to participants thanks in large part to the support of the Tennessee Arts Commission and Predators Foundation.

"We are incredibly grateful to both the Tennessee Arts Commission and Predators Foundation for making our educational programs possible," said WPT Executive Director Kate Foreman. "Thanks to their support, we are able to grow as an organization and serve both youth and adults in the community who are seeking more arts training and theatre opportunities."

Tickets for all four productions are on sale now - visit WatershedPublicTheatre.org for more information and to purchase tickets. Season passes are also available, which include three tickets that can be redeemed throughout the season as well as discounts on additional ticket purchases.
