One Day At A Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 42

It is a beautiful morning here in our little valley, it has warmed up, the sun is shining, the buttercups are up, the cats are playing and the birds are singing, a beautiful morning.

My coffee was really good this morning, we have finished breakfast and Bob is washing the dishes, I have had a really good week, I did some yard work and I did some cleaning, I love these warm beautiful days.

Still just cool enough for a little fire on these cool nights and early in the mornings, but after the sun comes up in the mornings we can raise the blinds and open the windows and let in the sunshine and warm air, that fresh air makes your house feel so nice and clean.

Even as we all enjoy our nice mornings here in our little places, there is still more and more trouble going on around us, we need to really be praying extra hard for one another, one day it could be us that needs the prayers.

I was in the store the other day and a loaf of bread was up to $2.80 and milk has gone up to $4.00 a gallon. I began to check the prices on things and over half of everything in the stores have gone up at least several cents. As we were leaving town going home the gas was already up to $3.74 a gallon.

I have been thinking a lot about the old story of the grasshopper and the ants, and also I have been thinking about some of the old sayings used by folks that have had to go through much harder times than we have ever had to go through, sayings like “waste not, want not”.

I am not scared or worried about all of these things, but I am a little concerned because I began to think about the younger folks, do they know how to as the old saying “cut corners”, and I thought about the older folks like us that have fixed incomes. We all have seen some hard times before, but maybe not like what we are starting to see.

I sit down and started making a list of the places where I can cut back and I was surprised at the things that I could do to cut back and the things that I could do without and not really miss them, maybe others can do this also as these troublesome times continue.

We were out walking in the yard and I looked at the flowers blooming out and I also noticed the fruit trees are trying to bud out, everything seems like it is ready for spring to be here, but we are not through with all of our cold yet, we still have to go through the little winters that people call Indian, blackberry and dogwood winters. I hope those little winters don’t hurt any of the fruit trees that are coming out early, but that is something we can not change and life goes on.

I am going to keep praying and trusting in the good Lord and looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time, I know God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God Bless
