The Lewis County High School Panthers returned to action at home on Friday night, October 21, hosting the Region 5-AA Summertown Eagles.

The Eagles controlled the clock for a majority of the first quarter, but Lewis County was able to take advantage of their first possession of the game as Brycen McDonald hooked up with Dyer Barnes on an 11-yard touchdown pass. The conversion pass fell incomplete and the Panthers took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

The teams played at a grinding pace that limited the Panther opportunities for almost the entire second quarter, but Lincoln Brewer powered his way to the endzone on the final play of the first half and Timothy Brown connected on the PAT as the Panthers took a 13-0 lead in at the half.

The Panthers were limited to only three first half possessions due to the slow pace of the Summertown offense but scored on two drives and held the Eagles out of the endzone as they forced a fumble deep in Lewis County territory in the second.

The third quarter was another slow quarter with strong defense on both sides as neither team was able to score and Lewis County held a 13-0 lead moving into the fourth quarter.

Lincoln Brewer would break free early in the fourth quarter on a 37-yard touchdown sprint and Brown added another point after to give the Panthers a 20-0 lead that would hold to the final as the Panthers improved to 8-1 on the season.

Lincoln Brewer led the Panther offense with 111 yards on 9 carries with 2 touchdowns, Chaz Sparkman had 2 carries for 11 yards, Micah Godfrey 1 carry for 9 yards, and Brycen McDonald 5 carries for 2 yards.

Brycen McDonald completed 16 of 23 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown. Dyer Barnes had 9 receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown, Bentley Kelsey 5 receptions for 40 yards, Chaz Sparkman 1 for 37, and Lincoln Brewer 1 for 14.

Lane Barnes led the Panther defense with 16 tackles, Dominic Seiber 13 tackles, 2 for a loss, and 2 sacks, Nathaniel Caamal 13 tackles, Chaz Sparkman and Eli Carroll 9 tackles each, Riley Ray 8 tackles and 1 tackle for loss, Dyer Barnes 5 tackles, 2 interceptions, and a fumble recovery. Bentley Kelsey 4 tackles, Lincoln Brewer 3 tackles and 1 for a loss, Jaylen Murphy and Malachi Bruce 2 tackles, and Kai Bosque, Brycen McDonald, Nathan Hamblin, and Timothy Brown 1 tackle each.

The 8-1 Panthers will face off with the Region 6-AA Riverside Panthers (8-1) for the Region 6-AA Championship on Friday night, October 28, at Bobby W. Sharp Stadium at 7:00.
