Lewis County Sheriff's Dept. recovers drugs on three different traffic stops

On September 9, 2021, a deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff's Department, working traffic on Highway 412 East, clocked on radar a gray Chevrolet Malibu. Upon making a traffic stop on the vehicle for speeding, the deputy identified the driver as Brandy Nelson of Hohenwald. The deputy obtained consent to search the vehicle which led to the discovery of 1.8 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an open bottle of alcohol. Nelson was charged with violation of open container law, simple possession of schedule VI marijuana and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

On September 9, a deputy with the Lewis County Sheriff's Department observed a Dodge Intrepid traveling on Buffalo Road that was in violation of the light law, having a tail light that was inoperable. A traffic stop was conducted and Camellia Carroll was identified as the driver. The deputy obtained consent to search the vehicle which led to the discovery of 24 oxycodone hydrochloride pills, and .32 grams of methamphetamine. Carroll was subsequently charged with misdemeanor possession of schedule II methamphetamine, and simple possession of schedule II oxycodone.

On September 11, a deputy with the department conducted a traffic stop on a green Toyota Camry for speeding on Highway 20 East. The driver was identified as Isaiah Hanvy. Upon obtaining consent to search the vehicle, it led to the discovery of 1.87 grams of loose marijuana, seven hand rolled marijuana cigarettes, and four square pills that were later identified by a field test kit to be MDMA (ecstasy). Charges were filed against Hanvy for simple possession of schedule VI marijuana, simple possession of schedule I ecstasy, and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Department receives complaints of speeding and reckless driving throughout the whole county. Sheriff Dwayne Kilpatrick would like to let the public know that the department looks into each complaint and thanks the citizens of Lewis County for being proactive about the safety of Lewis County.
