One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 24

October 21, 2021

Well it is a cool morning here in our little valley. We has some scattered frost this morning, it was on the roofs and it was 39 degrees. I am on the porch but I have got a blanket. The sunshine is warming everything up and it feels nice. The cats had them some warm milk this morning and now they are curled up in the sunshine. I think today for lunch we will have a bowl of good hot vegetable soup and some browned cornbread, now that will be good.

Things are still looking bad all around us, the covid has slowed down some, but the gas prices are now going up and it seems the prices on everything else are too. They are talking about shortages on a lot of things and the economy is looking bad! But you know, the good Lord will take care of His children and I am one of them. I think he wants us to do good and to trust in Him and for us to do our part to prepare even if it is just to buy and put back an extra box of crackers and a jar of peanut butter.

We are still trying to get things done outside before winter gets here. We will still have some warm days before the weather turns bad cold. We were outside working and heard some geese overhead, it was the most geese I think we’ve ever seen, there were hundreds of them in a perfect V shape. They were way up high in the sky and the strangest thing was they were going straight west coming from the east. My son had seen some earlier that morning going the same direction. I have always heard they migrate south for the winter and north for the summer, oh well! There are a lot of strange things happening these days, seems I am seeing more and more strange things all the time, maybe it’s just me and my old age.

We were walking the other day under two walnut trees we have and they are full of walnuts and the ground under them is covered with walnuts. The acorns on the oak trees are bigger than I have ever seen them and we have some muscadine vines growing up into some of the oak trees and those muscadines sure taste good.

We will soon have to clean out the flue on the old wood heater and get it all ready. We will have to have a nice fire going on these cold mornings before long. Wood heat sure is a mess but that is some of the best heat you can have and we love to smell that wood smoke outside coming out the flue. I will put a big pot of homemade soup or even my old coffee pot simmering on the wood heating stove, now doesn’t that sound comfortable?

I am going to enjoy this nice cool day along with my cup of coffee and I am going to take one day at a time and not worry about tomorrow. God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God Bless.
