One Day At A Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 31

December 9, 2021

Well it is a cloudy and cool morning here in our little valley. There is rain in the forecast and much cooler weather but it will soon be winter time. Some folks look forward to the winter and other folks don’t. I am looking forward to it, it sure is pretty when the snow begins to fall, especially right at Christmas time.

The fire in the old wood heating stove sure feels nice. I am having my coffee and the cats have had their breakfast and are back in their beds. I have got my Christmas tree lights turned on and it sure is pretty. Our mama cat came back home, she was gone for nine days. She looks good like someone had been taking care of her and even brushing her hair. Her thick hair was shiny and her eyes were bright. She seemed happy to be home and the other cats were happy to see her and so were we.

Today we are having a big pot of homemade potato soup and brown cornbread - that is always good on any kind of day. I am not finished with my Christmas yet. I still have a few more things to make and then I will get everything wrapped. I always give all the kids a “goody box.” I wrapped tomato boxes in gift wrapping paper and I use the same boxes each year. When they empty them, they bring the boxes back to me. I have to wrap the boxes every two or three years. In their boxes they get all kinds of things from little boxes of cereal to bags of popcorn to candy and of course they get some of my canned homemade soup and my canned jelly. They seem to like that better than the store bought kind. We always have our Christmas on Christmas Eve, then they all come back on Christmas day for a big meal and playtime. We always have so much fun. We have kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, I am looking forward to it.

This year will soon be over and we will be starting a new one. I am looking forward to winter and a new year. I have plans to do some quilting this winter. Some friends of ours gave me a lot of quilt scraps so I will be sorting and quilting, that is my fun time. I hope you all are looking forward to some good times. I know there is still a lot of sadness all around but we have to look for the good and go on. Let’s be grateful for what we have and do the best we can and pray for one another. I am not going to worry about tomorrow, I am going to take one day at a time because God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God Bless.
