One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 111

Well it is a hot and humid morning here in our little valley and it is warm here on the front porch.

The cats came up early and ate and then they left for their cool places.

There are not many hummingbirds in the yard, I guess it is just too hot.

There are some storms coming in this afternoon and then maybe some cooler weather, maybe we will have an early Fall.

We have had some rains, and I think now with the rains and the heat that we have had lately it has really made people’s gardens grow, I want to thank everyone that has brought us fresh vegetables out of their gardens this year.

Bob sure does enjoyed having slices of fresh tomato on his egg sandwiches.

We have been hearing a lot about the bad economy, especially with food problems and gas prices, and you know that food and gas are two things that people have to have.

A lot of people work out of town and it sure is hard on them when gas prices are high.

The high prices on everything also makes it hard on people with children that are going back to school because they have to buy school supplies and new school clothes.

It seems with all that has been happening over the last few years that everything is getting harder on all of us, a lot more than it used to be, what happen to all the improvements that was supposed to happen as time goes on?

There is some building going on in our area, it seems to be more than usual. I have heard some of the bigger business and stores have been closing or have some empty shelves.

I do not shop too far from home and we do not eat out much, we like my plain ole country cooking, and with prices going up I have learned a few cooking shortcuts that work good for us and most of the time instead of going somewhere we would rather stay home and relax on the porch with a glass of sweet iced tea.

I am not sewing much right now but when the cooler weather gets here I will get started with my piecing quilt tops and quilting and I am looking forward to that.

We still have got a lot to do outside before Fall gets here. Around the start of every Fall Bobby gets the flue cleaned out and the old wood heating stove ready before the weather turns cold and then when it starts getting cold outside we will be ready to build a fire in the old wood heating stove.

Our back porch needs some work done to it before we start stacking firewood on it, during the Winter we always keep firewood stacked on the back porch just outside the door and it makes it easy to get firewood when it is sleeting, snowing and freezing outside.

We still have a little while before the cold weather gets here but it is coming, you can count on it. I have been counting the heavy fogs this month and we have already had a few here in our little valley, the old saying is that you can count the fogs this month and that will be how many snows you will have during the Winter, that is just an old saying but we will see.

I guess all the kids are back in school now, I know most of the parents are worried that they have gotten everything done before the start of school and they worry about their kids, parents just can not help but worry about their kids, I know we even wonder about our great grandkids, we can only pray more.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless.
