One Day At A Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 113

Well it is a very hot and humid morning here in our little valley, it is very still and quiet, there are not many sounds just some crows off in the distance. There is a little breeze blowing and we are getting a few sprinkles of rain.

The cats have had their breakfast and are laying here on the porch resting. Bob has finished the dishes and the kitchen is spotless.

A little patch of cooler weather is coming, and maybe by the time you all are reading this it will be much cooler, but right now the long range forecast is calling for it to warm back up again next week, we still have just a few more weeks of Summer to go.

I have noticed a few trees are already starting to get a little bit of Fall color to them, some trees start to change before the other ones do, but Friday is the 1st of September and Labor day is on the 4th and then Fall begins on the 23rd. The other day Bobby reminded me that it is less then 4 months until Christmas, he knows I am looking forward to Wintertime, the weather does not bother him much and he enjoys Spring and Summer more.

Most of the gardens are just about gone and I think some of the gardeners are glad to get a well deserved break. I have been able to can a little this year, I have got to thank our daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Rick, for all the pears, and everyone else for all the fresh vegetables that you have brought us out of your gardens over the Summer. For those who do not know, gardening is a lot of work and takes time and knowledge, but the rewards are great, the vegetables bought in the store do not taste as good as the one fresh out of the garden, if you get a chance to buy locally grown vegetables do it.

We have not got as much work done on the outside as we had planned to do this Summer, there is still a lot of things on our to do list, but lately it has been so hot and humid that it is dangerous to be outside for very long at a time and the air from all the fires has not been good to breathe, but we still have a while yet before the bad cold and snow and ice gets here.

I am really looking forward to getting back to my sewing, I have some new quilt patterns that I want to make. We may have a long bad Winter and we may have to be inside a lot, but I can have a good fire going in the old wood heating stove and have a big pot of homemade vegetable soup warming on top of it and I can sit back and quilt while watching out the window at it snowing, now doesn’t that sound cozy. I love Wintertime, but I am sure before Winter is over I will be ready for Spring and warmer weather.

We were out running errands and we saw a lot of big round bales of hay, so it looks like people are preparing a lot of feed for their animals to have this Winter. I have not heard the neighbor’s old John Deere tractor in a while but I am sure it will not be long before they are real busy hauling them big round bales of hay and stacking them up near the creek, he takes real good care of his cows.

We were walking down by the creek and all the mushrooms that I told you about are almost all gone. We noticed that the acorns are bigger than usual and they are in clusters of 3 or 4. Our walnut trees are so full that the limbs are almost touching the ground. I have never seen so many wasp, Bobby has been busy tearing down nests and the nests are full of wasps, and in some places the wasps are just clustered together in groups of 20 or 30 wasps without a nest. Things sure seem a little unusual to me, but God knows exactly what is going on.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless.
