  • The Positivity of the Concrete Jungle: LA LA Land's Art and Culture

    Elissa Tracy|Aug 24, 2023

Returning to Los Angeles for a visit after residing in a small town is akin to plunging into an icy bath – simultaneously shocking, invigorating, and slightly stinging. It’s arguable that big cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago each possess their pros and cons. However, in this article, we’ll focus on the positive aspects of Los Angeles. For some reason, I’ve always found beauty amid the grit. Genuine graffiti, not the stylized graffiti art of today, has captivated me due to its layered stories and the fact that they can be obliter...

  • What shall we say about homeschooling?

    Danny Tyree|Aug 24, 2023

I realize such headgear has fallen out of style in our self-esteem-obsessed culture, but maybe I should belatedly don a dunce cap. You see, one of my first columns (nearly 25 years ago) was a snarky dismissal of the nascent homeschooling movement. I know at least two nice families who are homeschooling this year, so I wish to offer my apologies. Granted, I, my wife, our son, our parents and our siblings were all products of the traditional public school system. (I didn’t use the term ...

  • Gordonsburg/Little Swan News

Well it is a nice cool morning here in our little valley. Here on the front porch this morning it is 59 degrees and I am really enjoying my coffee. This nice weather will not last long, by the middle of this week they are calling for it to be around 100 degrees for a few days.
