The past week has been a terrible week for storms and rain, in many areas of the southern United States there has been lots of damage from the hurricanes that came onto the land. There was also the loss of many lives and much damage to buildings, homes, roads and many other things. We pray for all those in the areas where these storms struck. Even with all the rain that fell in the area the creeks never got up, I guess it was because we were so low on water levels from the drought during the last several weeks. Those I know which are sick...

The last couple of weeks the area has gotten some much needed rain, with some thundershowers with wind and rain and during the fair rain a couple of nights and some events were cancelled on Thursday and Saturday nights. Some even got more than two inches with it varying from one area to another, but all was very welcome. The temperatures are still in the sixties and low seventies at night but up above eighty during the afternoon. Those I know which are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Colene...

The temperatures have been in the low sixties in the early morning for the last few days and that is good for me anyway. We still are really short on rain and yards, gardens, and pastures are really suffering. Any farmer can tell you that when it gets this dry the cattle start looking for greener grass and it is hard to keep them in the fences. Those I know which are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Colene Beasley, Linda Butler, Elizabeth Boggs, Gertie Carroll, Pam Carroll is doing well after hip...

Still a few thundershowers around the area but not over all the area, sometimes it rains in town and not one drop down on the creek and then it comes a shower with thunder and not a drop in town I guess we need to be glad for what we get since it is so dry. Those I know which are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in the hospitals are: Kasey Baker, Colene Beasley, Linda Butler, Elizabeth Boggs, Bobby Carroll, Gertie Carroll, Spencer Clark, Nita Cottrel, Robert and Pat Dickson, Paula Dyer, Polly Edwards, Ophelia Green, Betty Hasty,...

Goes without saying we are still very hot and dry; many have been playing in ball tournaments and it really hot especially if you can’t find some shade to sit in. the players have made it good even though it has been so hot but guess the heat doesn’t bother them as much as it does us older ones. My great grand daughter is playing with a team that has not lost a game as on Monday in the state tournament. They play today and then we will know where we go from here. Congratulations to this ball team and others as they play their games. Those I k...

We have gotten to the portion of summer where it is hot and dry, have had a few showers but not enough to moisten the ground. The yards, fields, and gardens are suffering and even some leaves are falling from the trees from lack of moisture. The creeks and other water have been inviting to many in the area. wind. The rain is good for the farmers’ crops and the gardens that many in the area grow. This past Saturday night we had a thunderstorm and it had some fierce lightening and thunder, it would rattle the windows as mom used to say, actually it was early Monday morning but there was no loss of power where we were. The weather has been rather mild, still with lots of rain, which is good for the gardens and crops that are growing in the area. The days have been rather hot and sometimes the humidity makes it worse with temperatures in the eighties. The nights have still been nice with temperatures in the fifties and sixties most of the time. Some in the area have been trying out the creeks in the area which are still very cold but don’t get much better even when the nights are warm. Those I know of who are sick either at home, in nursing facilities or in t...

I would guess that many residents of Lewis County and Hohenwald were awoken by the ringing of the telephone in the early hours of Monday the 27th, it was the emergency service saying we were under a thunderstorm watch for a few hours. It did come a thunderstorm but now as severe as was predicted we had lots of thunder and lightning but no hail and not a lot of wind we did have lot of rain. Hope in your area it was also calm. I am glad we have this service to warm us of dangerous weather situations. Those I know of who are sick either at home,...

Once again last week, the weather has been a big influence on the area as Wednesday afternoon there was hail in some places about the size of a baseball. During the thunderstorm that brought the hail a large tree fell just below my house and several on Claude Carroll Rd and on Little Swan Creek toward highway 412 were without power for several hours. The power was restored thanks to MLEC at about eight pm but the internet and phones were out until Thursday about noon. There were lots of tree limbs and debris around the area and we were under a...

Last week was a very trying and unusual weather week, on Wednesday afternoon we had hail along with thunder and lightening and lot of rain, the hail was as large as baseballs in some areas, and this can certainly damage cars, houses and animals that are out in the open. Our area was not hit by tornados as some in the center Tennessee area and even some loss of lives. We pray for those in areas where this damage and loss occurred. We are still having lots of rain along with thunderstorms. Monday started off with thunder and rain in the early...

Pretty sure that Spring is here, it has been in the mid to upper eighties several days lately and even the nights have been warmer. The flowers are doing well, and many wildflowers have already bloomed and lost their blooms. We have had several thunder showers and many with heavy rain and even heavy thunder and lightning, which has hindered many of the ball games from being completed. Several softball and baseball teams were on the fields on Saturday along with Spring Fest which also suffered because of thunderstorms. Hope you didn’t get wet i...

The blackberry bushes have really been blooming and so maybe there will be lots of berries this year. I think spring has really sprung as the temperatures at night have been in the sixties and daytime in the eighties most days. The wind seems like it is colder than the temperature, but I guess that is because it has been blowing so hard. The last few nights have been cooler and even in the thirties a night or two in places, I guess this is blackberry winter since they are blooming. I hope this is the last winter but think there is one more don’t remember what it is called. The days have been relatively nice except for some thunder showers and rain, but rain is necessary for earth to flourish. Has been very windy days for the last couple of weeks and sometimes it is really cold or should I say cool. We had some rain a couple of days, and this has hindered some from doing garden work and maybe save their efforts for we have also had some frost with temperatures in the upper twenties. The dogwoods and red buds are blooming so maybe it won’t be long till we do not have these cool and cold nights. A couple of nights with early spring temperatures, nights in the thirties and days in the forties and low fifties. This could be dogwood and red bud winter as they are both blooming around the woods in the area. Maybe it will warm up in a few days and we can enjoy the warm days and nights of spring again. High winds for several days and some thunderstorms and rain and this week will be the same if the weather predictions are correct. The temperatures have been really mild and even the nights have not been too cool. The trees and shrubs that bloom in the spring are beginning to bloom and guess it won’t be long till the red bud blooms, although their blooms are purple not red. The buttercups which have been really pretty everywhere you see them are beginning to lose their blooms and the daffodils are getting ready to bloom. It looks like spring is...

We had a unexpected snow this week and some say that if there is a thunderstorm in February there will be snow within three days, well it happened this time but we have had some more thunderstorms with lightening and heavy rain so maybe this will prove wrong for I am ready for the snow to be over with and the warmer temperatures we had for a few days last week to stay around. The weather this past week has been really warm for this time of year with temperatures reaching seventy a day or two and in the upper sixties three- or four-days with sunshine most days. I for one will not complain for I enjoyed the warmer temperatures even though the days sometimes brought scattered showers, even the nights were in the forties which is great after the minus zero temperatures a few weeks ago. You hear many talk about the groundhog seeing or not seeing his shadow but I never have understood how a groundhog in the northern...

The past week was much better than the last one although we had lots of rain, some hard and with thunderstorms and other just showers along off and on some days. I am just glad that the snow and ice are gone and people can return to a more normal life with children in school, people able to get to work and some sunshine during the days with warmer temperatures. Would like to thank Doug Johnston who came and took the girls four-wheeler riding and some sled riding while the snow was on the ground, they had a great time even if it was cold. Those...

I guess everyone has something to say about the weather this past week. On Sunday afternoon around 4:30pm it began to snow and by the time we got out of church and home the roads were white and our back road was completely covered. By Monday afternoon there was over five inches of snow on the ground and even the main highways were treacherous and even those with four-wheel drives found it hard to get around. There was more snow and some sleet on top of that and the days the sun did shine much what melted only froze back during the night making...

Talking about Tennessee weather this past week has really been in sync with it reputation. We had days where the temperatures were in the upper fifties for a day and then thundershowers for two or three days with high winds. No damage that I know of except trees and limbs down all over everywhere. Then on Sunday the temperatures began with the twenties but by evening it was dropping and by 4:30 it had begun to snow and by the time we got our of church a little before six it was white and temperatures had dropped to 23 degrees. We made it home w...
